All store-bought marinara sucks. I know because I’m lazy and I’ve tried them all. They all suck, even the ones with Italian names and even Paul’s. I simply cannot understand why they’re all so sickeningly sweet. Ugh. So I’ve taken to making my own again – and it’s so easy there’s really no reason to buy pre-prepared pasta sauce in the first place, unless you’re EVEN LAZIER THAN ME.

Jung Typology Test
Check me out: I’m an ENFP. What type are you? Do you find the results to be accurate? If so, how? How the fuck could they possibly be accurate? The questions cancel themselves out, there aren’t enough to allow for re-wording to bring out the ‘deeper’ opinions we have of ourselves. I think even if you’re as honest as you know how to be, you still end up choosing things you want to be rather that what you currently are. I read several of the results, and I can identify with half of them. It’s like astrology, which I totally identify with. 😉
Actors Get Paxil
This article is disturbing: Doctors Influenced By Mention Of Drug Ads: Offbeat Study Finds Familiar Brand Name Can Evoke A Diagnosis Of Depression.
Apparently if you drop the name of a med you’ve seen on TV, you’re statistically more likely to walk out of your doctor’s office with script. (If they trust us to self-diagnose so readily, why can’t I call in a freaking codine cough syrup prescription when I want one?)
My Homemade Chai
This is my favorite chai recipe. I adapted it from my one of my favorite cookbooks ever, Extending The Table.
Spiced Tea (Nepal)
3 T. black tea leaves or 3 tea bags
3 c. water
2 c. milk
4-5 whole cloves
5-6 cardamom pods, cracked open, or 1/2 t. ground cardamom
1 cinnamon stick, or 1/4 t. ground cinnamon
sugar to taste (1/4 c., more or less)

Easy Veggie Chili
Here’s the recipe for the hearty, 40-minute pot of vegetarian chili I concocted for dinner tonight. Serve it with cornbread and salad and you’ve got yourself a meal.
Cracked bulgar adds a nice texture to this vegetarian chili.

My Dad's Here!
My dad just called… FROM HY-VEE. He’s in Fairfield! Can’t remember how to get to my house! Needed directions, which I gave him.
Joe’s out at our place – Brett picked him up from jail this morning – playing GTA. I called the house phone and let it ring about a zillion times to tell him to hide all his {naked women/naked children/really dirty porn/whatever} but he didn’t answer. Since my dad will be driving in the back drive, parking at the top, and walking down to the house… well, I just hope Joe’s not, you know, touching himself or anything when my dad walks in. SNORT!
I called Brett to tell him he needs to go home and concoct some sort of water/power situation for my dad’s rig – he’s got the day off so by the time I get home this evening they should have the RV on the grid, as it were. I should probably stop for BBQ stuff on my way home tonight. Hell, maybe I’ll leave work at noon!
Hello? Are you not there?
A couple of weeks ago, a writer from the NYT contacted me to see if I had anything clever to say about pretending to be on my cell phone when I’m not. I didn’t, so she didn’t interview me, but here’s the article I’m not in anyway:
Reach Out and Touch No One
By AMY HARMON
It’s weird how many people aren’t actually using any of their minutes. Do any of you do this? Pretend to be on the phone? Maybe you’d need this subterfuge more if you lived in a state with more than 80 people in it. Out here, you can see ’em coming from miles away and can escape! LOL!
Tahini Sauce
I’ve been wondering how to make this stuff for years. Oddly enough, none of the jars of tahini (sesame paste) I’ve bought ever had the recipe. This recipe came off the back of a box of falafel mix.
Tahini Sauce
1 c. tahini
1/2 c. water
1/2 c. lemon juice
1/2 tsp. salt
2 cloves garlic, minced
Blend ingredients thoroughly. Serve over falafel.

These icons are free, no strings attached! Although a link-back would be cool, and/or a heads-up to let me know you’re using them.
Enjoy!
Digital Trainer
Finally you get in shape with your PS2: Is this fun, or stupid? A video game that takes the place of a personal trainer?
If I bought it, it might make me vacuum the living room floor more often (so I could do yoga on it), and that can only be good.
