In which I’m trying to decide whether I should just turn around and go right back home.

ice

It’s just gonna be all kinds of crappy out for the rest of the day. This just in:

WINTER STORM WARNING IN EFFECT UNTIL 6 PM CST THIS AFTERNOON.

A MIX OF FREEZING RAIN, SLEET AND SNOW WILL CHANGE TO SNOW AROUND MIDDAY. ICE ACCUMULATIONS UP TO A QUARTER INCH WILL BE POSSIBLE. SNOW ACCUMULATIONS OF 4 TO 6 INCHES ARE EXPECTED IN THE AFTERNOON. NORTHWEST WINDS INCREASING TO 20 TO 30 MPH IN THE AFTERNOON WILL CREATE NEAR-BLIZZARD CONDITIONS. ACCUMULATING SNOW WILL END BY EVENING… BUT THERE MAY STILL BE SOME BLOWING SNOW.

A WINTER STORM WARNING MEANS SIGNIFICANT AMOUNTS OF SNOW… SLEET… AND ICE ARE EXPECTED OR OCCURRING. STRONG WINDS ARE ALSO POSSIBLE. THIS WILL MAKE TRAVEL VERY HAZARDOUS OR IMPOSSIBLE.

A quarter-inch of ice under five inches of snow? Travel very hazardous or impossible? Christ. I vote for daffodils instead.

More importantly, however, is that someone just put hundreds of dollars on my desk. Yay, payday!

In other news, I had a bit of a spa night last night. I trimmed my toenails, plucked my eyebrows, and then had a lovely steam bath and mud mask. When I woke up this morning, my face felt awesome.

Sadly, it doesn’t look as good as it feels, but at least that nasty blemish on my cheek went away. I really do harbor a deep suspicion that people with small pores are fundamentally happier.

An update (12:37 PM CST): …then again, maybe not:

ICE STORM WARNING IS CANCELLED.

SNOW ACCUMULATIONS OF 4 TO 7 INCHES ARE EXPECTED NORTHWEST OF A CEDAR RAPIDS TO DUBUQUE LINE…WITH 2 TO 4 INCHES OF SNOW EXPECTED NORTHWEST OF AN OTTUMWA TO ROCK ISLAND TO DIXON LINE. LIGHTER SNOW AMOUNTS BETWEEN 1 TO 2 INCHES WILL FALL SOUTH OF THIS AREA. INCREASING NORTHWEST WINDS WILL CAUSE BLOWING AND DRIFTING SNOW WHICH COULD CREATE NEAR BLIZZARD CONDITIONS OVER PORTIONS OF EASTERN IOWA AND NORTHWEST ILLINOIS THIS EVENING.

Another update (1:38 PM CST): The weather’s just laming out altogether now. Guess I’ll be having a 5 o’clock cocktail at the bar after all.

.NOW… PERIODS OF FREEZING DRIZZLE AND LIGHT SNOW WILL CONTINUE THROUGH 3 PM WITH UP TO AN INCH OF SNOW ACCUMULATION EXPECTED. BITTER COLD ARCTIC AIR WILL MOVE INTO THE AREA WITH TEMPERATURES FALLING THROUGH THE 20S. NORTHWEST WINDS OF 10 TO 15 MPH WILL PRODUCE WIND CHILL VALUES AROUND 10 DEGREES ABOVE ZERO. TRAVEL CONDITIONS WILL REMAIN HAZARDOUS ACROSS THE REGION.

Congrats on the paycheck and the spa night. It’s those things in life that really count.

i’m at a bit of a loss of what to say since i’ve gone through over a year’s entries in the past few days…let’s see…

    1. if you stay in town you might be able to have a sleepover at a friend’s house..which means a meal made for you and fresh bedding (a good thing).

    2. people who drive suv’s and live in a city should be shot and pissed on for wasting all that gas.

    Can I get a hell yeah? -m

    3. i love your sense of humour and your voice rocks…damn, girl, you sing good!

    *blush* -m

    4. having a hausherr is always a good thing. i’ve been doing the work/school thing while hubby stays home (he’s disabled with fms) and it’s worked out fabulously. yes we’re poor, but i’m happy, boy’s happy and bran’s happy…sort of.

    5. i’ve copy/pasted more recipes from your blog than from any other place, including cooking sites.

Good. Now MAKE them and report back immediately. -m

    6. i didn’t know there were so many hindus in iowa. learn a new thing everyday.

    7. i want to learn to knit socks and touques (those wooly hats) with 4 needles but haven’t found anything that instructs how to cast on and stuff. i need it to be easy because i don’t like knitting as much as crochet, but crochet makes shitty hats (all those holes)…hmmm…maybe we can do an exchange? i make beautiful doilies and things 🙂

i’m glad i got your link from enviroboi’s blog. you’re a very interesting person.

    *smooch* -m

i *just* remembered, about firefox. the extensions rock. it has a calendar that you can put appointments into and it has a reminder function that brings up a little window. the calendar will it on the bookmarks bar (i think that’s what it’s called). there’s also a reminder extension that is similar to the calendar (i use both), a moon phases extension that also give sunrise and sunset times, weather, smilies, a font enlarger that sits on the bookmarks bar for quick big/little/regular setting (that i used while i was reading your blog because i didn’t want to put on my glasses), and a media controller that you can set to whichever media system you use (i have it set to windows media because it plays a shuffle of all my mp3s). i totally love firefox 🙂

if i had a head i’d lose it…thanks for the knitting referrals. 🙂 the last thing i knit was part of a sweater. i eventually gave all the supplies and such to a person who’s a mad knitter. i lost the pattern, but she’s one of those who can look at a picture and whip it up in a nonce.
