I have two backups for comments on my blog. I need to merge them, but I can’t figure out how – if I import one file, it overwrites whatever was there, so I either end up with one set of comments (several years worth, from the beginning until nine days ago) or the other set (comments for the last nine days).
Any of you database geeks willing to help me out?
My web host will be changing while I’m on vacation, which means goblinbox.com might be down for a few days. If this happens, please don’t panic, and I’ll get it sorted out eventually… hopefully without any loss of content.
I’m going to try to back up and/or move everything tomorrow, but I don’t have high hopes for getting it finished (since I’ll be packing to travel and organizing things to leave my household unattended for six days, and having a visit to the dentist).
Moving one’s web site can be a royal pain in the ass.

I formatted my hard disk and reinstalled Windows yesterday. My applications are all backed up onto my work computer, which is at work, of course, so I bit the bullet and booted up Internet Explorer and went to catch up on my blog reading.
The internizze is ugly with IE.
My blog looks okay, but not a lovely as it should. Lots of CSS-driven sites render strangely in IE. Kinja looks weird. It’s just wrong.
Please, if you haven’t already, switch to Firefox!

Look! Here’s part of my desk – my work table, actually – at work.
And that’s five hard drives sitting on it. One’s my back up drive, one’s Buzzdoctor’s drive that I currently have data on, one’s toast, one’s my home drive, and the other is just some random drive I have sitting on my desk.
Okay, yeah, also please note I don’t work tomorrow and my home machine is apart. This means I may not blog or IM or check email. for a few days. Please continue to love me just the way you do.
In which my computer shits the bed and makes me really mad, considering all the crap I’ve been through with my work computer this past month.
Friday night, Brett asked me to get on the ‘net and look up the board track races in Davenport. Having no idea what “board track” races were, I surfed for ‘raceway’ and ‘speedway’ and didn’t find out anything.
In the background, I was importing songs into iTunes – I’d received the CDs and books I’d gotten from Shigeki‘s awesome gift certificate. At some point, my CD-ROM drive stopped responding, and Windows quit, and then it got wonky so I rebooted.
And when Win2kPro came back up, I couldn’t log in. It didn’t accept my password.
So I tried logging in as administrator, and it wouldn’t take that password either. I went to bed.
I spent hours over the rest of the weekend trying to get back in, but I couldn’t. Here at work today I have my home HDD in my bag, and I’m going to pop it into my USB enclosure and see if I can’t back my files up onto my work machine. Then I’ll have to reinstall Windows on the dumb thing and start over.
Snivel, bitch, complain.

My work computer has died a hard death. I think it’s the motherboard, but at first it looked like hard drive failure. So I put in another hard drive and got the same error: “Capable, but disabled.” It can’t use the HDD.
I just rebuilt my work computer last week, meaning I spent a day and a half backing up files and fdisking and reinstalling Windows. Meaning I have a full and recent back-up, so the fact that my box ate my hard drive isn’t upsetting me too terribly awfully much…
…but there’s really not a lot around here with which to build myself a new box. We’ve got tons of stuff in here, but it’s mostly old crap. Right now I’m sitting at the back-up server blogging. How much of a big fat dork am I?
