About Mush

I want to be a veterinarian because I love children.

Endocrinology

After reading a book or two on hypothyroidism, I had all kinds of new fancy opinions. Then I made the mistake of spending some time reading ‘legit’ information, such as that posted on the Internet by thyroid specialists and drug companies.

These sites made me feel as if there’s no way I could possibly have a thyroid disorder – even though all my symtoms are consistent – because my labs are ‘normal’. (Well, the one and only lab I’ve ever been able to get so far.)

More Spyware

I ran PestPatrol again this morning, and deleted a bunch of crap from my registry.

Then I closed it and installed SpyKiller 2004 and ran it. It found 43 live spyware processes.

I’m pretty close to shooting my computer. The thing that pisses me off the most is that I didn’t install any of the biggies – Kazaa et al have not been installed on this box! This is my work box, fer chrissake!

Storage!

I began to run out of room on my iPAQ.

I was surprized, actually, at how long it took me to run out of room – my last three devices had storage cards in them almost immediately! But my beloved iPAQ, excellent X-mas gift from the lovely and talented miss Tahmi, had an amazing amount of on-board space right out of the box.

At lunch today I buzzed over to that ugly monolith Walmart, and for a mere $30.61 bought myself a 64MB Lexar Media SD card. On returning to the office – I’m working a full week this week to cover Tim’s vacation – I moved my eBook folder to the new card and next will move my Dashboard and Wisbar skins onto it, thereby freeing up space for programs to run.

Whee!

Mouse

I saved a mouse the other day.

He was in the kitchen sink and couldn’t get out, and had nearly starved to death. He moved slowly and with lethargy.

He was a tiny little thing.

I lifted him up to the counter, but he didn’t run away, he just sat there, sides heaving, whiskers twitching. I moved my hand and he crawled onto a dirty plate I’d been about to wash.

I inverted a large tupperware lid over him at an angle; if I were a mouse I’d prefer a roof over my head.

I’d made dinner and there were crumbs on the other counter. I got a tiny tomato dice, a wee bit of lettuce, and two bits of shredded cheese.

I moved the lid and set the food in front of mousie. He just sat there, sides heaving, whiskers twitching. I lowered the lid to it’s protective jaunty angle and proceeded with my kitchen clean up.

I checked on him again when I was finished. He had a tiny bit of cheese between his paws and was chewing thoughtfully, if a tiny rodent can be said to be chewing thoughtfully in the first place.

I checked on him again a few minutes later and he was practically perky. Since I needed to wash the plate he was standing in and the lid over his head, I scooped him up and carried him out to the garage, where I deposited him and his veggies on a dark shelf.

Mice are a scourge, of course, and I bought a cat specifically to eat them. But sometimes you just gotta give a little guy a hand. Even if he’s a nasty little rodent.

JournalBar

I tried out JournalBar yesterday. What a stout little Today plug-in! I can’t decide if I love it or not, though, as it basically replaces two other plug-ins I already own, Weatherpanel and Spb Pocket Plus. I’ll admit that the weather function is much cooler because clicking it brings up a full forcast, but the news functions don’t work offline and there’s no hope of me getting a wireless connection for my palmtop any time soon!

Stuff and junk

A co-worker just gave me an amazing treat his wife had made… some kind of cookie confection with a crust and lots of chocolate and finely shredded coconut. He patted his belly and said, “My wife’s an excellent cook. I didn’t gain 40 pounds since I’ve been married for nothin’!”

I had lunch today at Revelations – a bowl of soup and an avocado & feta sandwich on wheat. Oh so good.

I am still absolutely plagued by pop-ups here on my work machine. I’ve scanned for spyware, I’m running a pop-up blocker, and it’s still unbearable. Argh! I need some time to fuck with it but work impinges.

What is up with the weather? Lows of 50? What is this, April? When I stepped out for lunch it was practically brisk out! And me underdressed as always.

I spent a lot of time screwing around with MT’s templates in an effort to make matching archives for this blog, but it just ain’t having none of it. (Of COURSE it’s not ME, it’s THE SOFTWARE! Hehe.) So I emailed the chick who wrote the utility that made the template for this page and asked what she’d charge to provide me with working templates. Haven’t heard back yet.

My whole site is bugging me but I haven’t been able to find time to work on it. I want it to look much cooler than it does! I think I’ll start small, though, and redesign the Skins section first off.
