About Mush

I want to be a veterinarian because I love children.

Earworm

I’m infatuated with this chart right now. Infatuated.

  • Download: Grace (Jeff Buckley)

I’ve been listening to it about a dozen times a day for three days now. The quavering, hard rock vocal should drive me apeshit, but for some reason I love it. The depressing, angst-ridden lyric should drive me apeshit, but for some reason I’m super into it. The highly-audible clicky-clicky pick sounds against the strings should drive me apeshit, but for some reason it makes me all hot and bothered. I shouldn’t like this track, but I love it. The whole thing just floats. It’s gorgeous. It’s sweeping.

And no, it doesn’t suck like that Brit pop from before. (Which I still think is adorable, you snobs!) Thanks for asking.

You can go buy the album. It’s so hot.

GeoURL ICBM Address Server

Okay, okay, okay, y’all must hop quick like a bunny over to GeoURL, add your site, and find out who your meatspace neighbors are!

These are mine. So fun!

(Well, it’s fun in Iowa, ’cause there’s no one here. If you live in Cali or something, it might not be that amusing. But don’t be a dick, add your site anyway.)

Oh God

Something I ate yesterday really, really, really did not agree with me. I don’t know if it was the Mexican or the Italian, but it hates me now whatever it was.

I’ve been in the WC all morning, and was really worried about that last five minutes of my morning commute, which ended with me dashing into my office, dumping my things on the corner of my desk, and immediately duck-walking across the hall to the unisex.

And yes, I do realize that’s more than you want to know. But this is the Internet, after all: totally uncensored, innit?

People! They came over!

Brett worked a half-day yesterday, taking the afternoon off to spend with Jeff Blount, who is in town with his 13-year-old daughter, Soma.

They showed up in the late afternoon. Brett and Jeff went off to pick Brett’s truck up from the shop, where it got new brakes and a couple of retreads, and Soma and I sat at my computer and geeked out on our iPods.

She has a second-gen iPod mini she bought in Japan. It’s green. So cute.

Soma lives in Australia, so her accent is TO. DIE. FOR. She’s smart and adorable and pleasant and has her mom’s huge blue eyes, and I really liked hanging out with her. She and I held the couch down, snacked on veggies and ranch dip, and watched sit-coms for a few hours while the men (Bo and Toby showed up) laughed outside.

Soma

When they went on a beer run, Soma and I made them pick up a couple of pizzas, so dinner was totally awful. Gas station pizza always sucks, and I’m always slightly shocked by it. Go figure. Continue reading People! They came over!

Copy Pod

Save your tunes with Copy Pod: “CopyPod is a lifesaver when sending your iPod for repair, in cases of computer/hard drive crash, or just to backup up to a different drive.” Plus Buzzdoctor uses it.

September

In September, I’m going to New York City to work on an album with my old friend Barbara, aka Ilana Iguana, and I’m so excited I could squeal. (Never been to NYC before. Been in New York, but never the city.) Aimee and I are flying out together – she found us a screamin’ deal on airfare – and we’ll staying with Steven in the city and then with Barbara in Jersey. We’ll be rehearsing in subways, eating good food, and hanging out. I’ll see Katya and Tane and meet the Roche sisters and everything.

The material is this amazing a cappella stuff Barbara’s been writing over the last twenty-five years. I even get a gospel solo in the end of one of the charts… Barbara gave me an old recording of the chart, Sweet True Love, that we recorded with a boom box in the MIU student union in the early 90’s and said, “This is the exact way I want you to sing the solo. You nailed it… it’s perfect. Do it like that.” So even though I’m usually queen of the improv solo, I’ll be copying my own decade-old improv because she loves it.

While I’m gone, Brett will be going to Telluride to the Blues ‘n Brews Festival, where the dumb whore will get to see The Reverend Al Green live and in motherfucking person! *swoon* If I weren’t going to sing and see old friends, I’d be painfully jealous.

I’m a little jealous as it is.

I have no idea what we’ll do with the dogs. We’ve never kenneled them before, but I can’t imagine asking someone to come out here twice a day for five days, or asking someone to keep them for that long ’cause they’re all spazzes. And when I say “spas,” what I mean is, that Dingo will eat your baby. What I mean is she’s already munched a kitten (oh, gross bad dog) and bitten a cop (oh, good dog!).

Basecamp

I want to do a big group project suddenly, just so I can use this – Basecamp, project management and task management software. It just looks cute… and it’s not Outlook.

Hippy Dress!

About a year ago I found out that Ron’s girlfriend (now fiancee) is a killer seamstress, and I’ve coveted her stuff for too long now. So I just went to her web site and bought this killer dress. That bitch is so mine! I’m so excited! I mean, how desperately adorable is that dress?!
